Fritz Pauer Tribute

News | Vienna Review | April 2013

On 4 April a memorial concert will be held at the Musikverein to celebrate the work of jazz musican and composer Fritz Pauer.

This date was initially booked last spring for the Fritz Pauer Trio, featuring Johannes Strasser on bass and Joris Dudli on drums, following Pauer’s impressive duo performance at the Musikverein with Sheila Cooper, but Pauer passed away last July.

The memorial will emphasise Pauer as a composer, with famous musicians evoking his virtuosity as a soloist.

One highlight is Sheila Cooper and Heidi Krenn with Fairytale Countryside. Cooper will reprise "I’m a Fool to Want You" from their duo CD, featuring Markus Gaudriot, a young Austrian pianist, playing Pauer’s accompaniment and solo. Demonstrating the breadth of his influence, another highlight will be Andy Middleton, featured on saxophone and presenting Pauer’s quintet music.

A multi-day celebration of Fritz Pauer at Porgy & Bess and Jazzland will be held in    October to coincide with the anniversary of his 70th birthday.
